No Attorney-Client Relationship

Information Collection

We respect your privacy. We only collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us, including: your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, payment or billing information (if applicable), and immigration case details or other details you choose to include in your messages through our website’s contact forms or email links.

We also receive limited technical information automatically when you visit our Website, because our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs: your IP address, your browser and device type, and which pages were requested. That information is used to operate and secure the Website. We do not use advertising or analytics services, and we do not build a profile of you from it.

If the firm invites you to use our secure client portal, we also collect and store the information needed to represent you there: your name and email address, the account and two-step verification details used to sign you in, the answers you provide on the consultation intake form (which include immigration history and family details), documents that you or the firm upload, messages exchanged with the firm, appointment and deadline records, and a log of access to your documents.

Three answers on the intake form — your A-Number, your passport number, and your U.S. Social Security number — are encrypted before they are stored and are not held in readable form in our database. They are decrypted only by firm staff, one record at a time, when the matter requires it.

Use of Information

Information provided to our firm is used strictly for the purpose of evaluating potential representation, communicating with clients, and fulfilling our professional legal obligations. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

We may share your information with trusted service providers who assist us in operating our Website and delivering services, government agencies or courts when required to process your immigration matters or comply with legal obligations.

We use service providers to operate the Website and the client portal, and they process information only to provide those services to us: Supabase (account sign-in, database and document storage), Vercel (website hosting), Resend (email delivery), Cloudflare (the automated-submission check on our consultation form), and Calendly together with its payment processor (consultation scheduling and payment). Consultation requests submitted through the Website are stored in the same secure database.

SMS and Text Messaging

By opting into SMS from a web form or other medium, you are agreeing to receive SMS messages from the Law Office of Nina P. Chobu. This includes SMS messages for customer care. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Message HELP for help. Reply STOP to any message to opt out. Opting out of text messages does not affect our ability to contact you by phone, email, or mail about your matter.

We do not share your SMS consent or your mobile information with third parties. No mobile information will be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are excluded from every category of information sharing described in this policy and will not be shared with any third parties. Mobile information may be disclosed only to the messaging service providers that deliver the messages on our behalf, and only as necessary to send the messages you have requested, or where disclosure is required by law.

Data Security

We take reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the personal information we collect. However, please be aware that no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

For the client portal specifically: connections are encrypted in transit, access to every record is enforced by the database rather than by the interface, two-step verification is required for every portal account without exception, the three identifiers described above are stored encrypted with a key held outside the database, and access to client documents is recorded in an access log.

Client Portal

Access to the client portal is by invitation only. Accounts are created by the firm, there is no public sign-up, and portal pages are excluded from search engines.

Every portal account must be protected with two-step verification using an authenticator app. If you lose access to your authenticator, contact the firm — for your own protection we cannot restore access by email alone.

What you see in the portal is limited to your own matter. Your documents, forms, messages and case records are visible to you and to the firm’s staff; they are not visible to other clients.

We keep portal records for as long as we represent you, and afterwards for as long as our professional and legal obligations require. To ask what information we hold about you, or to request its deletion, contact us at info@chobulaw.com.

Cookies, Analytics, and Browser Storage

This Website does not use advertising or analytics services, and the firm does not set cookies of its own. We do not track you across other websites.

The Website and the portal do store a small amount of information in your browser’s local storage: your language choice, display preferences such as a light or dark theme, and, if you sign in, the session that keeps you signed in. That information stays in your browser, is not sent to us for analysis, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings. Signing out removes the portal session.

The automated-submission check on our consultation form is provided by Cloudflare and may store its own technical data in your browser in order to tell people apart from automated submissions. It is used for that purpose only.
